What does the course entail?
The Applied Information Technology (AIT) General course for Years 11 and 12 gives students both practical and theoretical skills to solve real-world problems using digital tools.
In Year 11, students learn how to communicate and work with others using programs like word processors, spreadsheets, and collaborative software. They explore design basics, data handling, simple networking, and important topics such as cyber safety and digital citizenship.
In Year 12, the focus shifts to media and business use of technology. Students create graphics, audio, and websites, explore how different hardware and software work together, and learn how to manage and protect data and networks. Throughout, they consider legal and social issues, such as copyright, privacy, and how technology affects society.
Students complete hands-on projects, manage time effectively, and create solutions based on client needs. Assessment includes project work, written tasks, and an externally set task in Year 12. The course builds useful skills in communication, problem-solving, and safe technology use—preparing students for further study or careers in areas like IT support, digital media, office admin, or business tech roles.
