What does the course entail?
Futures at Kolbe Catholic College is dedicated to shaping well-rounded individuals prepared for success in both work and life. The applied learning program focuses on fostering vocational skills essential for the ever-evolving professional landscape. Grounded by the Kolbe Capabilities for Life and the Kolbe Way, students embark on a journey of personal and professional growth while growing their own identity and connection to others in the program.
The Futures Program is designed to equip students with practical, hands-on experiences that seamlessly integrate with classroom learning whilst also providing the opportunity for structured study time. It provides a dynamic environment that nurtures communication, creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability using the program themes of self development, engagement, immersion, and practice. Students will undertake seven applied learning modules over 2 years. Within each module, evidence portfolio projects are guided by each theme of the program. Performance tracking and micro credential attainment run concurrently within each module.
Guided facilitation is employed for each module although all evidence portfolio projects are student managed in conjunction with their personalised study time with a goal to reach set milestones. Projects are either Knowledge based or Experience based and these are collated via a digital learning platform to create an Industry specific digital portfolio for each student. The program cultivates the atmosphere of a micro training facility tailored to the vocation aspirations and required experiences for each student. Through the opportunities offered, students are provided with multi-facilitation methods (digital, face to face, voluntary experiences, workplace, and peer directed) and differing learning spaces ( Rockingham Jobs and Skills Centre, South Metropolitan TAFE, Rockingham library, and local community). |
"What gives humans meaning in life is a strong sense of identity around a purpose or passion, creativity, mastery in relation to a valued pursuit and connectedness with the world and others" |
