Course Advisors will work through course selection materials with students and assist them in their choice of courses. The Kolbe Pathways Team are available to provide support to students and their parents. When deciding on the selection of courses for next year, students should follow four simple steps:

Students are required to select six courses (including Religion and Life and English - COMPULSORY). They must select one list A and one list B subject. See course list to see which subjects are list A or B. Students are also asked to nominate two reserve courses, in case their selections do not fit the timetable grid. x
The WASSA is issued to each Year 12 student at the completion of their senior secondary schooling. The WASSA lists all courses and programs that a student has completed and the grades and marks achieved:

Each student and their parents/guardians will have a meeting with a Course Advisor. They will work through selecting a Pathway based upon the students ‘Why’ and then proceed to make choices of courses. Resources to help support this process are:

The College reserves the right to withdraw any course. Available resources limit the number of classes that can be timetabled. Places in courses will be allocated on the basis of students who have met the pre-requisites. If a student is late submitting their subject selection, he/she then risks the possibility of not being allocated all preferred selections. Students can have their performance reviewed at the end of the year to allow for an opportunity to make some changes to their choices, based on academic improvement. x
Requirements to meet WACE achievement To meet the WACE achievement requirements, you must:

Most courses on offer have certain minimum pre-requisites attached. That is, students need to achieve at a certain level by Semester One in Year 10 or 11 in order to be recommended into the subject in Year 11 or 12. The pre-requisites are not meant to disadvantage students, rather they provide an indicator as to the level of performance required to achieve success in the respective subjects. Past history would suggest that achievement in Years 9 and 10 is a very good predictor of performance in related courses in Years 11 and 12. Year 10 Semester One results are therefore used to determine whether students are eligible to access courses. Final acceptance into courses is at the discretion of the respective Head of Learning Area. |

At Kolbe Catholic College, we encourage students to decide on a pathway that sets them up for success rather than failure. Placement of a student in a program of study that is too difficult or does not interest them often leads to a loss of enthusiasm, self-esteem and confidence and eventually to failure. The following key points highlight the importance of making the right choice. x
In order to achieve the Literacy and Numeracy standard for WACE, you must demonstrate the minimum standard of Literacy and Numeracy either by pre-qualification through Year 9 NAPLAN or by successfully completing the Literacy and Numeracy components of the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment ('OLNA') in Year 10 or subsequently. |
